Originating from Norway, I had been spoiled with the richness of the vast Norwegian landscape, with its tall mountains and wide fjords. The exploration of the usually chilly landscape through numerous hikes did not come as a restraint to my always present desire to discover the wonders of the earth. My aspiration is to always try new things, and to cherish the enrichment that manifests itself as my sore feet continue to tread unexplored land. In search of the ultimate adventure, I sought the country furthest away from Norway, and ended up in New Zealand, keen to unravel the mysteries within.
I fell in love with its vast green forests; the hills stretching far and wide, surrounded by beautiful beaches of white and black sand; the warmth that embraced me like the Norwegian air had rarely done; and the lovely smell of rainwater occasionally tapping away on the heated concrete. The only this utopia had been interrupted, was by the staggering heat that beamed down on me as I climbed Mt Maunganui. As I reached the top, my breath was taken away, like the three-thousand steps to get there had not done, by the beautiful view. The cool water at the foot of the hill washed the sweat off me as I dreamt of whatever was yet to come. And I was completely caught off-guard when it arrived.
There I was, seated after a long hike through the forests around Heritage Gold. Every part of me was aching. The stings in my stomach were enough to keep me up even after a thousand lullabies sang by the greatest of singers. I thought I had seen the beauty New Zealand had to offer – the mountains, stretching blue waters, wavering waterfalls, cozy villages, prestigious cities, and diverse wildlife.
But, nothing compares to the grace with which they flew down, and their beauty that blinded me that day.
Everything was perfect. Their sturdiness, yet elegance. Their simplicity at first sight, yet the mystery that develop within. Their balanced tan after having spent some time baking in the heat. The little devil and angel on my shoulders that have come to unanimous agreement upon sight of them.
After the initial wave of nearly uncontrollable hotness, their warmth greeted me like an old friend, and made tears spring in my eyes.
- No water in the world could have cooled me down after having once again expanded my knowledge of the world.
- No amount of lottery wins would have resulted in the same ecstasy.
- No amount of compliments could ever wish to be so humbling
I called out for someone to resolve the enigma that had inhabited my thoughts. To unravel the endearing mystery which had bestowed me. And to my surprise, someone answered:
" It is Hillside Farms working their magic.’"
Truly the greatest pies in the world.
